The $10 More Local Food Challenge
Make a difference!
Did you know that if every household in Guelph and Wellington (about 75,000 households) spent an extra $10 per week on local food and business, that this would equal $750,000 extra dollars in our local economy weekly? Wow! And guess what?! That equals $39 million dollars if we kept that up all year long.
When money is spent in your community in a local small business, it is spent again locally, often another five to seven times. That helps to keep those local businesses in business, keeping jobs in town.
You can make a difference! Take the pledge!
No matter how much you spend on local food, why not consider how you can spend $10 more? It's easy to find places to buy local food. Pick up the Local Food Map or visit your local farmers' market, farm gate market or roadside stand. Look out for retailers, restaurants or business that have the taste•real logo posted and ensure you are buying food grown close to home.
